Reader submission – Location: Nashville, TN
April 2012
The ups delivery person usually rings my doorbell – then takes off. Twice now they didn’t – both times when the package was obviously damaged (like they knew I would refuse it if I had the chance ). This time I caught the guy on security cameras – he ran like the devil was chasing him.
This picture comes to us from Sweeden, the reader ordered 22″ wheels from the U.S. and this is how UPS delivered the packages. I didn’t get a lot of info from this submission other than that, but I did do a little research. Depending on where they were ordered from this set of wheels would have set our reader back over $1200, and chances are they invested a lot of time researching their purchase and saving the cash to make the purchase. Then they arrive looking as if they were generations old and stored in a damp basement. I hope that the wheels were still in pristine condition inside those mangled boxes, and I hope our reader has them installed and cruising around town right now. Even more though, I hope that the retailer who used UPS to ship these expensive items demands accountability from UPS and chooses to ship with an alternative next time.
I almost stayed home to wait for the UPS package. After waiting around until 2pm I left to do what work I could. I return to find out from my hubby that no one ever knocked. I check online tracking and it turns out they didn’t even come to my door, they just delivered straight to the office of the apartment complex, which is now closed for the weekend. So much for getting my package.
Received a package from Fedex today. The box was literally pristine, could’ve been fresh from the box factory and you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. This is a regular delivery and to this point the shipments have always been in exceptional condition.
Maybe Fedex could make some extra money on the side doing freelance training for UPS. If I have a choice I will not use UPS unless they change their act up and show me that the things I’m shipping are as important to them as they are to me.
UPS has delivered another damaged package to my door step, this is the third in a row. I stopped using them as a shipper 2 years ago when they ruined a package containing a $450.00 eBay sale. I had used one of their authorized locations to package the item, when it arrived at the purchasers home the package looked like it had been dragged from New Hampshire to Texas behind the truck and used as a seat for an elephant. The ebay purchaser demanded a refund, and I demanded UPS cover the loss. UPS declined to cover the damages stating that the item was insufficiently packaged. After using one of their retailers to handle the packaging they conducted their “Investigation” and declared that they were not responsible. Apparently when packaging your goods for shipping with UPS you’ll need to prepare them for an atrocious journey that is sure to put them in harms way.
The majority of packages that I receive from UPS are in less than excellent condition, and it seems that lately, more often then not, they are arriving with obnoxious amounts of damage, completely illustrating UPS’s disregard for cargo their customers have entrusted them to handle.
